EVERGREEN 6 RIVERSTOWN FC 3
Evergreen made it 6 league wins in a row with
a 6 - 3 victory in an entertaining match at Deerpark.
Riverstown never got going in the first half and also lost James Sweeney to
injury within 5 mins. On 10 mins Evergreen sliced through our defence with
a great passing move and their forward coolly slotted the ball home. Further
pressure was mounted and it looked as if we would hold out until halftime,
but 2 defensive lapses in first half injury time made it 3 0 at halftime.
At the start of the 2nd half Evergreen scored to make it 4 and it looked like
a long final 25 mins.
To their credit we never gave up and Peter McCarthy scored a marvellous goal,
chipping their keeper from 20 yards after a great pass from Jeff Hodder. Then
5 mins later Peter scored another fantastic goal. This time curling a 25 yard
free kick into the corner. At 4 2 it looked like a draw could be possible,
but Evergreen showed their class and quickly added a fifth and six goal. Peter
again came close to scoring with only a fantastic goal line clearance preventing
a hat trick. However 5 mins later Peter got his deserved hat trick after great
work by Jeff Hodder.
Riverstown can take a lot of positives with a magnificent performance from
Peter McCarthy, others to impress were Jeff Hodder, Conor Kiely and Eanna
Hardwick.
Next game local cup away to Blarney.

CARRIGALINE UNITED A 0 RIVERSTOWN FC 2
Another league win for Riverstown who were too
strong for a spirited Carragaline side. Right from the kick off Riverstown
took the game to the home team who were unable to keep up with our quick passing
and movement. The only surprise was that it took 15 mins for Peter McCarthy
to continue his scoring run of a goal in every league and cup game this season,
with a superb finish from an excellent cross from James Sweeney. To their
credit Carragaline fought back but with Anthony Walsh commanding at centre
half, Riverstown stood firm until half time.
The introduction of substitute Jeff Hodder at half time paved the way for
Riverstown to gain control again and James Sweeney had the ball in the net,
only to be controversially disallowed for offside.
However 5 mins later James grabbed his 8th goal of the season, waltzing passed
the Carragaline defence and shooting high into the roof of the net. Indeed
James also hit the crossbar from 25 yards and on another day could have had
a hat trick.
With 20 mins to go the excellent Mark Dilworth was replaced by Conor Kiely
who showed the strength of this squad, by having a excellent game at right
back.
Overall a comfortable win and great performance, all 14 players involved were
a credit to the club. Praise must go to Alan O'Rourke who filled in for our
regular goalkeeper Gavin Walsh and had a great game with some great saves
and good handling. Happy Christmas to all the players and parents from Rivertsown
FC.

BANDON 2 RIVERSTOWN FC 3
A marvellous performance and result against a
good Bandon side. From the kick off Riverstown dominated the home team, and
the passing and movement was a joy to watch. It was no surprise when midway
through the first Peter McCarthy opened the scoring after a flowing move from
inside their own half. Shortly after James Sweeney headed in from a corner
kick. 2 – 0 at half time in a one sided first half. 10 minutes into
the second half it was 3 with a well worked goal coolly slotted home by Adam
Brennan. To their credit Bandon kept fighting and 2 late goals set up a rousing
last 5 mins. Under immense pressure Riverstown remained composed and kept
the ball well until the final whistle.
A great all round performance from all 13 players who thoroughly deserved
their first win of the season after a very difficult opening 2 games.

RIVERSTOWN FC 2 EVERGREEN 4
Evergreen ran out winners in an exciting match
which was of the highest standard throughout. Riverstown started nervously
and were soon on the back foot against an impressive Evergreen side. It was
no surprise that Evergreen took the lead after 10 mins and scored another
before half time.
Riverstown were much improved in the second half and were unlucky not to score
after a period of sustained pressure. Evergreen went 3 up with a fantastic
breakaway goal from deep inside their own half. However Riverstown kept fighting
and scored the goal of the match, with Peter McCarthy shooting into the top
corner after great interplay with Dylan Burke. Then a minute later James Sweeney
was on the end of a great cross from Peter McCarthy to set up a barnstorming
last 5 mins. Riverstown kept pressing for the equaliser however Evergreen
scored in the last minute to ensure victory.
Riverstown's second half display against the league leaders gives great cause
for optimism in the coming matches.

RIVERSTOWN FC 8 WATERLOO 0
A succesful debut in the National Cup as Riverstown overran a plucky Waterloo side and recorded a comfortable 8 - 0 victory.
Riverstown settled after their first goal by James Sweeney and at half time lead 5 - 0. In the second half both Adam Brennan and James Sweeney completed their hat tricks with James scoring 4 in total. Peter McCarthy completed the scoring. A strong performance from all 14 players. Riverstown face an away match to Macroom in the next round.

RIVERSTOWN FC 1 ROCKMOUNT 2
An unlucky start for Riverstown in a game where a draw would probably have been a fair result.
